We believe that the products we choose can help us design for a better environment, both inside and out. Our collection of vinyl flooring, which is suitable for a variety of commercial and residential applications, makes a big impact on the look of a space, but a small impact on the earth.

In 1992, we established our first sales office in Hong Kong. Since then, we've been proud to offer our customers a wide variety of flooring solutions to suit any need – aged care, retail, residential, healthcare, residential, you name it. Our range of products caters to those looking for superior quality but also to those after unique solutions like sustainable slip resistance, acoustic noise reduction, rubber and sports flooring. HISTORY

1915 - 1948: The Early Years

1915 - The company was founded as a weaving operation by James Halstead.

1954 - 1978: Domestic & International Expansion

1963 - The group starts manufacturing in South Africa, Australia, and New Zealand.

1971 - Polyflor XL became the first single-layer homogeneous flooring available in 2-meter width.

1983-1999- Innovative New Product Development

1983- James Halstead Limited introduced Polysafe slip-resistant flooring.

1992 - Purchase of Polyflor Australia. The company became directly involved in the Australian flooring market with the purchase and strengthening of the company responsible for the distribution of Polyflor in Australia. Since then, the business has been further strengthened, and now includes a sales presence in all states, and warehousing in Queensland, New South Wales, Western Australia, South Australia, and Victoria.

1998 - Building on the success of the non-directional products launched in 1989, a polyurethane reinforcement was added to the products, providing excellent protection and facilitating a polish-free maintenance regime.

2000: Today - Continued Strengthening of Polyflor Portfolio

2004 - Polyflor took further steps to expand our portfolio with the launch of our first heterogeneous vinyl sheet flooring, Polyflor Forest FX.

2006 - James Halstead Flooring was presented with the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade.

2007 - James Halstead Flooring was presented with the 2007 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the continuous product innovation and development category for the Polysafe collection of safety flooring products.

2013 - BES6001 responsible sourcing certification is achieved. Became the first flooring manufacturer to receive BES6001 certification, achieving a ‘very good’ rating for it LVT product Ranges.

2015 - In 2015 Polyflor celebrated a century of manufacturing in Manchester, UK, where this family-run company was born and is still flourishing today as a global business.

2018 - Polysafe Quattro is an innovative safety flooring range offering barefoot and shod sustainable wet slip resistance with a stud-free finish for enhanced comfort underfoot.

2018 - The launch of Palettone PUR, Polyflor’s largest and most advanced collection of Homogeneous flooring, a spectacularly colourful 50 colour collection.

2019 - Polysafe QuickLay is a loose lay safety flooring designed for adhesive-free installation and is the perfect solution for busy commercial environments in need of a quick turnaround and where sustainable slip resistance is a priority.

2020 - New commercial Visualiser was established. Preview our portfolio of flooring options in your space, compare ranges, shades and installation directions before selecting the perfect floor for your project.

2023 - As of November 1st, 2023, Polyflor has committed to provide funding support for Resiloop, Australia’s first national stewardship scheme for resilient flooring. With additional funding from the Australian Government, ResiLoop was initiated by the Australian Resilient Flooring Association (ARFA) in 2022 and a proposed approach released in May 2023 to start addressing the 60,000 tonnes of flooring waste generated annually from installation and end of use.
